Accreditations of courses

The GCRAB accredits courses which provide students
with the necessary skills and qualifications to become
a Registered Genetic Counsellor.

As part of the accreditation process each university has to provide extensive details about the academic components of their course.
The following UK MSc in Genetic & Genomic Counselling courses are GCRAB accredited:
  • Cardiff University                  –  Renewal of Accreditation due in September 2023
  • University of Manchester   –  Renewal of Accreditation due in July 2025
The following courses were previously accredited by the GCRAB and are not currently running.
The accreditation extends to cover the final cohort of graduates.
  • University of Manchester      –  MSc in Genetic Counselling (last intake September 2015, final graduation December 2017)
  • Cardiff University                      –  MSc in Genetic Counselling (last intake September 2016, final graduation Summer 2018)
  • University of Glasgow             –  MSc (MedSci) Genetic & Genomic Counselling (with work placement)(final graduation December 2023)
The process and standards by which MSc courses are assessed is currently under review (2024).

GCRAB Accreditation Fees

These fees are also under review. 

  • Accreditation of new course: £1000
  • Annual maintenance fee for Accredited Course: £250

The GCRAB are unaware of any other courses which have applied for accreditation.
