This is an update on the joint endeavours of the GCRB and AHCS to explore a process of group equivalence to acquire HCPC statutory regulation as clinical scientists: genomic counselling.
Our proposal has been discussed informally with the HCPC (Healthcare Professions Council). The feedback from HCPC has been that our proposed approach, based on a sampling method, would not be in keeping with the HCPC-approved STP Certificate of Equivalence process.
The GCRB will continue to explore with AHCS the feasibility of alternative proposals that incorporate the feedback received from the HCPC and will ensure that the profession remains appropriately regulated under the auspices of the Professional Standards Authority.
Updates will continue to be placed on the GCRB website.
The GCRB are currently in active discussions with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) to determine a process of equivalence for GCRB registrants. We will keep all GCRB members updated with progress through the website and email communications. Information will also be disseminated through our Annual General Meeting and joint meetings held with the Association of Genetic Nurses and Counsellors (AGNC). We recognise that prospective applicants may have questions about this process and the GCRB will communicate any changes to the registration process with applicants in a timely manner, should it impact their application. We recommend applicants continue to follow the currently stipulated GCRB registration process as detailed on our website.

The GCRB has been in discussions with the Academy for Healthcare Sciences (AHCS) to establish a route for statutory regulation for our profession.
Please find below a joint statement to this effect reflecting the ongoing commitment of both organisations.
We will present some further details of this process at the GCRB AGM and the panel discussion at the upcoming AGNC conference in Glasgow.
All updates will also be posted on the GCRB website in due course.
In 2018 Annual Subscriptions will increase to £120 and Intention to Register fee will increase to £220.

From 2018 onward, appllications for registration are submitted by creating a NEW USER account and completing the PERSONAL DETAILS and INTENTION to REGISTER online forms. The forms can be completed at any time however can only be submitted between 1st February (midday) and 8th February (midday).
The online forms replace the previous PART A form.
Acceptance of applications will be confirmed by email and an invoice sent for payment of the application fee of £220.
Applicant Guidelines, SOM Guidelines and the Portfolio Checklist document (supporting information) have been updated to reflect the online submission changes.
There has been no change to the portfolio content.
